Afrobeat star Seun Kuti appears to have disappeared into thin air after the Inspector General of Police Baba Akali ordered his arrest for slapping a policeman on Saturday.
Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulakpo Kuti was involved in an altercation with the policeman during a traffic stop on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. Mr. Kuti post on his Instagram page a video of him confronting the policeman and landing a slap he claimed the policeman wanted to kill him and his family. The IG has ordered his arrest and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
But while the policeman on involved has written a statement, Kuti is yet to show up to state his side of the story. Policemen who went after him to effect his arrest on Sunday morning did not find him at his residence in Allen Avenue Ikeja.
After spending a couple of hours in the area the arresting officers retreated.
Kuti meanwhile has received a of bashing on social media over the incident. Many users noted that as a celebrity he should have maintain his cool no matter the provocation. “His father despite all his brushes with law enforcement agents never raised his hands to slap an officer,” said one of the Facebook posts.
