Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti who was let out of police jail late Tuesday night has thanked his family and lawyers who ensured that he regains his freedom.
Mr. Kuti was back in court Wednesday to face charges of assault against a policeman and the Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court turned down an application by the police to formally arraign him.
Femi Falana SAN representing Kuti opposed the application pinning his argument on the fact that the police failed to send the case file to Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) as directed by the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Olatubosun.
“The police should duplicate the case and transfer it for DPP’s advice,” Falana said
In her ruling, Olatubosun held that she needed the DPP’s advice before proceeding with the case.
She adjourned the case until July 3 for mention.
