Athletics Federation of Nigeria president, Tonobok Okowa said Thursday that there was no crisis in the board of the AFN as its emergency congress ended in Abuja.
This is just as the North East zonal delegate at the congress presented a letter to the AFN secretariat asking for the recall of Tafida Gadzama who is the first vice-president.
Speaking after the congress Chief Okowa noted that crucial decisions that will affect the development of the sport were arrived at and also that the constitution of the federation was also amended.
“The congress went on so well…there is no crisis as many people are expecting.
“Some amendments were made to the constitution in line with the code of governance of the international sporting federation and we also arrived at decisions, which we will implement after due consultations with the new sports minister expected after May 29,” Okowa said.
The congress also agreed to change the logo of the federation, which was created by the former president Ibrahim Gusau.
But the main drama of the day was when the North East delegation to the congress submitted a letter of recall of Mr Gadzama at the AFN secretariat. However, they were directed to revert to their zonal co-ordinator so that the issue can be handled at the zonal level.
Mr. Gadzama, a former 400m runner and Olympic 4x400m gold medalist from the Sydney 2000, had opposed the congress stating that its convening did not follow the right procedure. Gadzama was also reported to be plotting for the removal of the president.
