Bendel Insurance of Benin have been under the weather at the Super Six play offs at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena in Onikan Lagos and their quest of finishing the season unbeaten came to an end with Rivers United edging them 2-1.
Stanley Eguma’s Rivers United on the hand are enjoying their games with a good run of form and they show exactly why they are topping the table with eight points with their final game against Enyimba still to come on Sunday. Bendel Insurance and Rivers United playing under the afternoon sun struggled in the first opening minutes, but United were the more adventurous side and their efforts were rewarded in the closing minutes of the first half. Maurice Chukwu cashed on the failure of Bendel Insurance to deal with a corner kick and scored for Rivers United.
And they waited till the stoppage time to add a second goal through Joseph Onoja via an assist from Ukeme Williams. Bendel Insurance got their consolation goal shortly afterwards through Divine Nwachukwu.
“Our victory against Bendel Insurance was a well-orchestrated plan,” coach Eguma.
“My players gave a good account of themselves throughout the encounter. They followed what we instructed them to do, and that contributed to the positive result,” he said.
