Mainland Metro News | I never took a penny of Delta Queens, Okowa fumes at reports | All the news you need...

Delta State Sports Commission chairman, Tonobok Okowa has described reports alleging that he diverted money meant for the allowances of Delta Queens Football Club as cheap blackmail.
It was reported by an on-line media Sahara Reports, that the Delta State sports boss had withheld the sum of N1.1m each approved for the Delta Queens players. But Okowa noted that this was a fictitious report meant to tarnish the image of the hard working Delta State Sports Commission’s hierarchy.
According to a statement made available by his office, the report by the medium was a failed attempt at extorting money from the Delta State Sports Commission.
“Is it not unimaginable that the Delta State Commission Chairman should stoop so low to shortchange Delta Queens officials who needed much more motivation to achieve goals set before them by the sports loving Governor of the State Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori?
“You don’t throw stones at every dog that barks at you when you are on a serious mission. We can’t be distracted
“It’s also curious that those peddling the unfounded rumours against Delta State Sports Commission are themselves gullible for working in the opposite direction for the set goals of sports in Delta State.
All records on how funds were disbursed are intact and once more, Delta State Sports Commission cannot succumb to wanton intimidation or cheap blackmail just to press for gratifications.
“Delta State Sports Commission is ready to grant interviews if need be to the media to shame detractors who knows next to nothing than to spread falsehood and hatred through anonymous ways and means.
“The Delta State Sports Commission is aware of the envy which its numerous successes in Sports over the years have attracted to the state, but the Sports Commission will not be deterred or relent in all efforts to forge ahead with the Commission’s mandate to be loyal, develop and motivate all Delta State Sports Associations to greater achievements ahead.
“Delta State Sports Commission under the watch Chief Tonobok Okowa also wants to reiterate its commitment without any form of ambiguity to sports officials, Athletes and the good people of Delta State.”
