Nollywood actress and rapper Mercy Isoyip a.k.a Descushiel, has been left off the hook by the Nigeria Police Force after muddling up the Nigerian national anthem during a police retreat in Owerri, Imo State.
Decushiel, chewed up the words of the anthem at the occasion graced by the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, host governor Hope Uzodinma and other top police and political dignitaries.
“To Err is Human…,” the police said on their X page Monday. “NPF Pardons Mercy Isoyip, aka @Descushiel after actress muddled up National Anthem lyrics.”
After the event the IG had expressed sympathy for the actress many Nigerians assumed was a police officer being that she was dressed in police uniform.
“A young lady was brought on stage to sing the national anthem, and towards the end, I think stage fright caught up with her, and she made a mistake, which became a whole lot of issue, especially on social media,” said Egbetokun.
Descushiel herself was remorseful: “I acknowledge and understand the importance of the National anthem and am deeply sorry. I regret that I fell short in upholding the respect and reverence that it deserves from the Nigerian police,” she said.
