Nigeria’s celebrity Chef Hilda Baci, lost her Guinness World Record for the longest cooking to Alan Fisher, and Baci raised the wine glass up to the Irish chef.
Fisher cleaned out the existing records 93 hours 11 minutes held by Baci with 119 hours and 57 minutes. He achieved the feat at his restaurant in Japan. The Irish Chef also took the GWR for the longest baking hours in a record timing of 47 hours 31 minutes erasing the previous 31 hours 21 minutes held by American Wendy Sandner.
Fisher took on both challenges consecutively, spending over 160 hours in the kitchen with just a little over a day of rest in between the two record-breaking attempts. The records were confirmed Tuesday by the board of the Guinness World Record.
Baci took to her X page to congratulate the new chef in town: “Huge congratulations to Alan Fisher! 119hrs 57mins is a huge achievement, and I wish him all the best as the new world record holder!”
Baci, with an A class physic shot to instant fame in May when she set her record. Her record attempt was so popular that it crashed the GWR website for two days when it was confirmed in June, “due to the immense volume of traffic we received from her legion of loyal fans,” the organization said.
Meanwhile Nigerians have reacted to Baci losing her GWR. While some expressed their support and wished her well, others like Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia, blamed Nigerians for bullying chef Dammy, otherwise, the title would have still remained in Nigeria. Chef Dammy in June cooked for 120 hours, but her effort was not recognised by GWR due to some technicalities.
Idemudia wrote on X page: “You guys were bullying the innocent Dami 4 attempting to break the record as if it was Hilda’s birthright. You see, if we had encouraged Dami who knows, we would still have retained it as a nation. Oya go and Bully this guy Na. Abi Na only poor people Pikin una dey bully. Wazagha.”
