Napoli Monday morning parted ways with Rudi Garcia, and Ballon d’Or winner Fabio Cannavaro and Hellas Verona coach Igor Tudor, are the coaches being lined up to take over the Serie A champions.
Cannavaro, the 2006 Ballon d’Or winner was among the dignitaries who were seated at the owners box as Napoli lost 1-0 to Empoli at the Diego Maradona Stadium last Sunday, leaving them 10 points off the pace. And for Napoli president Aurelio De De Laurentiis that was all he needed to sack the Frenchman, who was seen boarding an EasyJet back to Nice Monday afternoon.
Garcia took over as Napoli coach in the summer after Luciano Spalletti’s decision to step away, signing a two-year contract worth €2.8m net per season. A clause was included which allows the club to terminate his contract next June should he be dismissed in his first campaign.
His sacking does not come as a surprise as Napoli lacked the same intensity that earned them the title last season. He played 16 matches winning eight, with four draws and four losses.
