An Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal Friday nullified Governor Abba Yusuf’s election.
The Appeal Court upheld the judgement of the Kano governorship election petitions tribunal to cancel the election of Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party on the premise that 165,663 of his votes were invalid. The Appeal Court declared that All Progressives Congress candidate Nasir Gawuna was the rightful winner of the March 18 2023 election.
The Kano government, reacting to Friday’s governorship election judgment by the Abuja Division of the Appeal Court, stressed the need for the people to maintain peace for the development of Kano. The government called on security agencies to redouble their efforts to ensure that law and order were maintained and the protection of lives and properties.
Commenting on the judgement, human rights activists Aisha Yesufu, wrote on her X page that the Judiciary has embarked on a mission to destroy democracy in Nigeria.
“The judiciary is really on the path to destroy democracy completely in Nigeria.
“In 2019 Kano people rejected APC yet rigged magic was done and now this again.
“When you take away the legitimate will of the people you open room for the illegitimate will to be exercised.
