Nigeria’s national women team the Super Falcons Thursday steam rolled visiting Cape Verde 5-0 in the Women African Cup of Nations qualifier played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The win is a double guarantee that the Super Falcons have booked their ticket for the WAFCON tournament billed for Morocco in 2014, as it is certainly a mission impossible for Cape Verde to score six goals in the second leg billed for December 5 at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde in Praia
Uchenna Kanu and Esther Okoronkwo bagged braces, while Gift Monday scored to make things complicated for the Cape Verde women who were overwhelmed by the Super Falcons who walked over Sao Tome and Principe in the first round. Cape Verde dismissed Liberia with a 6-3 aggregate win to set up the clash with the nine-times African champions.
Kanu opened the floodgates of goals in the seventh minute with a tap in and Monday doubled the lead in the 25th minute after a scramble. Just before the break Kanu got her second goal from a delightful pass made by Toni Payne.
Okonkwo, a replacement for Monday made an instant impact in the 53rd minute, after she finished off Akudo Ogbonna’s cross. In the 64th minute she was back to make it five for Nigeria, connecting a cross from Rofiat Imuran.
