Manchester United did not allow journalists from some media to cover Tuesday press conference ahead of their Wednesday night’s game against Chelsea.
Manager, Erik ten Hag was due to address the press but the Club said reporters from Manchester Evening News, ESPN, Sky and Mirror will not be let in because they have reported negative stories about the club and the manager.
“We are taking action against a number of news organisations,” the club said in a statement.
“Not for publishing stories we don’t like, but for doing so without contacting us first to give us the opportunity to comment, challenge or contextualise.
“We believe this is an important principle to defend and we hope it can lead to a re-set in the way we work together.”
Manchester Evening News had reported Tuesday morning that Ten Hag had begun to lose the confidence of those around him including players and staff with his methods being doubted. United have already lost ten games this season, the most at this stage of a campaign since relegation in 1973/74.
The MEN article goes on to state that a dressing room source described the situation as ‘so bad’ while senior players ‘expressed concern at the direction of the club.’ It has also been claimed that some players are ‘startled’ by the signings made by Ten Hag including that of young striker Rasmus Hojlund.
However, Ten Hag denied there was a rift in his dressing room, adding that he was always ready to listen to players suggestions and opinions.
