Star striker Victor Osimhen went straight from Marrakesh to the Diego Maradona Stadium to help Napoli qualify for the Champions League round of 16 Tuesday, and talks on the renewal of his contract are set to resume.
Contrary to claims by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis that both parties were itching closer to an agreement, there is still more negotiations to be done with Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda ready to for talks with the club. Osimhen’s contract will expire in 2025, but so far he has stalled on signing a new contract following disagreements about release clause.
Despite the back and forth the Super Eagles striker has delivered for Napoli like Tuesday night when he scored and secured Napoli’s passage to the Champions League round of 16, with their 2-0 win over Sporting Braga. It was his seventh goal of the season for Napoli.
According to reports by Corriere dello Sport via TMW, Calenda is expected to meet with De Laurentiis to iron out the sticky points of contract. This is just as Premier League clubs Chelsea and Arsenal are keen to land the African Footballer of the Year.
