President Bola Tinubu and his administration have nothing to do with the political crisis ongoing in Rivers State, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said.
The statement by Mr. Idris is coming against the background of allegations that the Federal government was playing an active role in the power tussle between Federal Capital Territory minister and former governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike and his successor Siminalayi Fubara. This development led to the decamping of 27 Rivers State house of assembly members from the Peoples Democratic Party and declaring for the All Progressives Congress.
Speaking after the Federal Executive meeting Thursday in Abuja, Mr. Idris said the Tinubu administration was not working in concert with Wike.
“Well, he is a federal cabinet member; he is involved in the situation in the state. That cannot be a federal government position. How can it be the federal government’s position?”
“But you know that what has happened in Rivers is not a creation of the federal government. It is a political problem that is brewing in the state.
“The federal government is always interested in the well-being of all the states, and in that direction, the federal government will always align with everyone in Nigeria to make sure that there is peace and tranquility in all parts of this country.”
Meanwhile Rivers State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, has resigned from the cabinet.
He said in a letter to governor Fubara that he was leaving because of personal reasons.
