Nine suspected child traffickers running an interstate buying and selling of children have been busted by the police in Kano State.
According to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, the suspects were apprehended in sting operations by the police in Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Lagos, Delta, Anambra and Imo.
“It was through diligent investigations by our dedicated team of officers that the operation of these criminal networks that have been in existence for more than 10 years were identified,” Gumel said.
“We first tracked down a boy at Mariri Motor pack with some non-indigent persons who didn’t understand his language, and after arresting them, we traced all other seven persons in connection with the kidnapping of seven other children
“It was discovered during investigations that a victim, Mohammed Ilya, who was abducted from Bauchi but his name changed to Chidebere was sold recently at Nnewi in Anambra State,” Gumel said.
He disclosed that Illy who was stolen when he was three years was sold at N450,000 while Muhammad Bulyaminu was recovered from Sabon Gari Kano and was sold at N450,000, and Chiameka was abducted at birth and was sold at N350,000, but her parents are yet to be identified.
Those arrested in connection with the Child Trafficking include Chika Ezugu, 53 old, Joy 43, Clemente Ali 35 and Emeka Ekedugwu 55, Berut Yarima 45 from Bauchi and Ndama Obi from Nnewi and Ebere Emmubu.
