Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has ruled himself out of the coaching job of the national team saying he doesn’t want to get sacked.
Mikel who was speaking during a chat on CNN ahead of the 2024 African Cup of Nations said though, he would love to get involved with the team in a different role.
“I would love to get involved with the Super Eagles, but not as a manager.
” I don’t want to get sacked, and I don’t think I can handle that very well.
” I want to be involved with the national team as someone trying to fix the problems from the top.”
Mikel who won the AFCON 2013 with the Super Eagles at different times had proved his leadership quality with the national team. One of such remarkable occasion was the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, where he became the problem solver of the Nigerian U23. His contributions on and off the field help the Samson Siasia coached squad to win Nigeria’s only medal at the games
