Nigeria’s Super Eagles Monday were handed a 2-0 defeat by the Syli Nationale of Guinea in a friendly warm up match ahead of the African Cup of Nations billed to kick off Saturday in Cote d’Ivoire.
Camera Aguibou and Facinet Conte scored in both halves to give the Super Eagles a reality check at the Banis Yas Stadium, in Abu Dhabi UAE. The Super Eagles had thrashed a local side 12-0 during a training match. They are expected to arrive Tuesday in Lagos and on Wednesday head for Cote d’ Ivoire where they will tackle Equatorial Guinea January 14 in their opening match.
The Super Eagles conceded the first goal of the match played behind closed doors in just 14 minutes and all their efforts to get back into the game failed to materialise. Simon Moses missed from the spot after Umar Sadiq was brought down in the box.
Sadiq himself returned in the 27 minutes to squander another chance. He missed as his header veered off target to give the Guineans a respite. Samuel Chukweze also took his turn to fluff another goal opportunity just before half time.
Conte made the wasteful Super Eagles pay in the 65th minute after he fired past Stanley Nwabali in goal for the Super Eagles.
