Super Eagles injury woe ahead of the African Cup of Nations continued with striker Sadiq Umar coming down with a knee injury.
Umar picked up the injury during the warmup game against Guinea and has been ruled out of action for at least three weeks.
The Real Sociedad player left the Eagles camp in Cote d’Ivoire Thursday and he is heading for Spain where further tests would be carried out to determine the extent of the injury.
Umar will miss the AFCON just like Victor Boniface who picked up muscle injury during training in the UAE. Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho also suffered injury before the training camp in Abu Dhabi. But Iheanacho is expected to join the squad in Cote d’Ivoire.
Coach Jose Peseiro is now considering a call for Cyriel Dessers as replacement for Umar.
Umar returned to action this season after missing most of last season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The 26-year-old striker has made 22 official appearances this season, nine of them as a starter, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
