William Troost-Ekong, acknowledged that it would be a difficult match playing against Cote d’Ivoire in front of their fans, but the Super Eagles have the will to cause an upset.
The group A match is a must win for the Super Eagles if they hope to guarantee their place in the round of 16 and according to Troost-Ekong the Super Eagles are well prepared.
“It’s going to be a tough game, but I’m confident we will win,” said the defender during a press chat ahead of the game.
“We have prepared the same way, but we hope to win this time around. Coming up against the hosts is going to be a big challenge for us.
“There are a lot of experienced players in our team, who have played in games like this in the past, so there is nothing to fear for us.”
Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro said the team needs to win to ease the pressure, but added that it was down to luck.
“In the game against Equatorial Guinea, we were the better team. We created chances and had the most possession in the match but could not record a win,” Peseiro said.
“Like I said, only God gives and takes,” added Peseiro.
Côte d’Ivoire maintained an early lead in Group A with three points following the comfortable 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau in the tournament’s opening match.
