The Super Eagles against all odds collected all three points with a 1-0 win over the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire in their second group A game of the African Cup of Nations.
Victor Osimhen who missed a chance in the first half won a penalty, which was slammed into the net by William Troost-Ekong in the 55th minute of the second half. Osimhen remained a threat to the Ivorians till he was replaced by Paul Onuachu late in the game. The African Footballer of the Year deservingly won man of the match.
The result was a reasonable reward for the Super Eagles who were unbowed by the huge home support. They now have their destiny in their own hands as they tackle Guinea Bissau who are already out of the tournament on Monday. The Elephants must now grind out a win against group A leaders Equatorial Guinea who earlier in the day beat Guinea Bissau 4-2.
