Guinea-Bissau may be down and out in the 2024 African Cup of Nations, but star player Carlos Mane said there would be no free dinner for the Super Eagles when they clash Monday evening in Abidjan.
Speaking ahead of the clash the Super Eagles are favourites to win and seal their spot in the round of 16, Mane said the Djurtus are motivated despite losing to Cote d’Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea.
“We have zero points in the competition but we have to fight to get a good result. We will go into the game with a strong mentality, we will try to win,” Mane told a press conference in Abidjan on Sunday.
“We know Nigeria very well. They have a good coach (Jose Peseiro) . He was my coach at Sporting Lisbon four years ago.
“It’s going to be difficult to beat Nigeria, but we will play for our country and our family. We will surely make things difficult for them.”
However, Super Eagles attacking midfielder Ahmed Musa said the team would not make the mistake of underrating the desperate Guinea-Bissau
“We have to keep fighting hard and not underrate our next opponent. They beat us in the qualifiers which is enough for us to be wary of them,” the winger told the media.
“The good thing is that everything is in our hands now. We know what to do to be in the next round. The victory over Ivory Coast has helped us a lot.
“The most important thing now is for us to keep doing our best in training and on matchdays. It’s still a long way to go for us, but the key thing is to remain positive and keep working towards achieving our target.”
