Controversial coach Jose Mourinho is keen on taking over at Napoli ahead of the 2024/25 season and his agent has opened communications with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Reports by the Times of London said Mourinho could meet with De Laurentiis this week to discuss a possible move after he was sacked last week by Roma.
However, football transfer expert Fabrizo Romano has cautioned that there is little prospect a move to Napoli will happen.
“Despite reports, Mourinho can’t become Napoli manager for this season due to Italian rules, so there’s nothing to those stories,” Romano said.
“In the summer, we will see what happens, it’s still a long way to go and Napoli have not decided anything on their new head coach so far. It will take time for Napoli to choose, and Mourinho is also not in a rush, he will take some time to decide his next step.”
Meanwhile Mourinho is in Barcelona after leaving Roma and the former United and Chelsea boss seemed calm about his future after his latest setback. Before leaving Roma on Sunday, some fans visited him with kids at his hotel to wish him well and Mourinho was moved to tears.
