Angola Football Federation (FAF) on Monday urged corporate bodies and individuals wishing to gift its players at the African Cup of Nations to do so through the FAF’s Communication, Marketing, Commercial and Image Department, rather than go to the players direct.
FAF also barred phone calls to the players while they are in camp.
According to a FAF statement, institutions, individuals and organizations should follow this procedure to express gratitude and generosity to avoid distracting the players ahead of the clash against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The FAF’s statement comes 24 hours after several contacts were made by national institutions to players of the Angola national football team, pledging offers for their CAN`2023 campaign.
On Sunday, athletes and members of the delegation received a five million Kwanzas gift each from the Angola Investment Bank (BAI) to be deposited in their respective bank accounts.
The chairman of the bank’s Board of Directors, Mário Alberto Barber, phoned the team’s skipper to confirm that the promise had been fulfilled.
The chairman of telecommunication operator UNITEL guaranteed the players and coaching staff, via a call to striker Gilberto, the offer of a mobile phone (iPhone 15), free calls, SMS and internet for a year.
The offer was motivated by Angola’s 3-0 win over Namibia, which ensured qualification for the quarter-finals.
The diamond company SODIAM has pledged 250,000 dollars to the national team and coaching staff if Angola qualifies for the final of this 34th edition of the Cup of Nations. Angola Press Agency
