Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has faulted President Bola Tinubu’s private visit to France even as insecurity in the country has assume a frightening dimension.
Atiku writing on his X page said he was dismayed that the President could jet out in face of the rising cases of kidnappings and killing of Nigerians by bandits and terrorists.
”Tinubu is playing fiddle while Nigeria is drowning in the ocean of insecurity.
”To imagine that the Commander-in-Chief is on a so-called private visit while kidnappers kill a nursing mother and grandmother in Abuja for failing to pay N90 million ransom and two monarchs in Ekiti, among other regular tragedies besetting Nigerians.
”If the shoes are too big for Emilokan, he should step aside. Nigeria does not need another tourist-in-chief. The country needs 24/7 leadership to confront the pervasive insecurity and collapsing economy.”
Meanwhile human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana said President Tinubu has exposed himself and the country to ridicule with his private visit to France.
“I hope this will be the last time that a president of Nigeria will expose the country to embarrassment and ridicule by going to a country where his presence is not recognized,” Falana said in interview with with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica,
“There is no provision in the constitution for a private visit by the Nigerian president. Therefore, he cannot go on a private visit and still be running the country.
“So to the extent that the activities of the state are still being conducted by him, the question of a private visit does not arise.”
