South Africa’s Bafana Bafana will play against Nigeria’s Super Eagles after they beat Cape Verde 2-1 in Saturday’s long drawn African Cup of Nations quarter-final tie.
Full time scores after 120 minutes of exchange was 0-0, both sides were unable to find the cutting edge. And the ensuing shootout also witnessed scarcity of goals as only one of the first six was converted. Bafana Bafana keeper Ronwen Williams saving gracing for Bafana Bafana stopping four spot-kicks and handing South Africa the advantage and the ticket to the semi-final.
They will try the Super Eagles for seize in Bouke on Wednesday.
Though less fancied to win the title, South Africa have fared well in the tournament eliminating Morocco, a World Cup semi-finalist, and then adding Cape Verde, previously unbeaten.
The last time the 1996 winners reached the semi-final was in 2000. They lost to the Super Eagles and it remains to be seen if Nigeria will contain the South Africans.
