Cote d’Ivoire Elephants Saturday evening produced another amazing result, beating Mali 2-1 in extra time to qualify for the semi final of the African Cup of Nations.
The hosts reduced to 10 men in the first half looked to be heading out of the contest, after Mali scored in the 71st minute with a classy curler by Nene Dorgeles.
But the Elephants equalised right on 90 minutes through Simon Adringa’s opportunistic finish – and won it with virtually the last kick of extra time when Diakite diverted home Seko Fofana’s shot.
Cote d’Ivoire who scrapped through to the round of 16 as one of the losers, shocked defending champions Senegal in the quarter final. The win against Mali threw the nation into a fit of celebrations, The Elephants now face Congo DR in the semi-final on Wednesday with the hope they can stampede their way to the final.
