Delta State Sports Commission Chairman, Chief Tonobok Okowa has dismissed speculations that he is planning to elongate his tenure.
Speaking against the background of write ups in some quarters saying he was lobbying to remain, Okowa said he has started moving his personal belongings from the Sports Commission offices at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
Okowa who is the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) president and Confederation Africa AthIetics (CAA) vice president said after serving in the same capacity for eight years with unprecedented landmark achievement, it has become necessary to aspire for higher calling,
“For Eight years under my leadership as Chairman of the Commission, Delta State had won the National Sports Festival,All National Youth Games.
“These also include many national championships in other sports too numerous to mention.
“The new Chairman of the Commission has to continue to maintain the foundation already laid by the previous administration.”
He said appointment in the sports sector in Delta State has afforded him the opportunity to acquire deep knowledge both in Delta, Nigeria, Africa and World Sports in general and experience can’t be bought from the market.
He insisted that his services for Delta was an honour and privilege as he expressed gratitude to Deltans for all the accomplishments.
