Confederation of African Football (CAF) president, Patrice Motsepe said he expects Nigeria to bid for the World Cup and will discuss the matter with President Bola Tinubu who would be his special guest at Sunday’s final between hosts Cote d’ Ivoire and Nigeria.
Tinubu is reportedly warming up to storm Abidjan to cheer the Super Eagles with a large force including 21 State governors.
Mr Motsepe said Friday at a press conference in Abidjan that should Africa host the FIFA World Cup again Nigeria should be that country.
“Nigeria must put in a bid,” Mr Motsepe said.
“The Nigerian president (Bola Tinubu) is coming to watch the final on Sunday. I will have a conversation with him about it.”
Motsepe praised Super Eagles exploits in Cote d’Ivoire saying the team is beginning to show their true self in the continent.
“What they’ve achieved in the past is incredible. From the beautiful country, and it’ll even be more beautiful on Sunday.
“I’m so proud of Nigeria. Nigeria has two hundred and thirty million people and as much as I want all of our nations to be involved, to get that amount of people excited is beautiful.
“To be able to get that many people, our people, because every one of the nations in Africa is our people, it means a lot. The best of Nigeria is back, the best of Cote d’Ivoire is back. I was asking about Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, and Ghana. We should support all of those countries and be proud of what they’ve achieved in the past,” he added.
