The Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has sounded a warning to the Nigerian political leadership to take urgent steps to address the biting social and economic hardship in the country, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to contain the impending uprising.
Sa’ad Abubakar III who is the Chairman of the Council of Northern Traditional Rulers made the statement in Kaduna during the meeting of the council. He emphasized that the country is in a dire situation and needs urgent solutions.
“We must find jobs for our teeming youths that are sitting idle and I have said it so many times, we are sitting on a keg of gunpowder; teeming youths, millions of them without jobs, without food. We are looking for trouble,” said the Sultan.
“To make matters worse, we are faced with the rising level of poverty. Most of our people lack normal sources of livelihood. However, I believe talking about insecurity and the rising level of poverty are two issues that we cannot fold our arms and think everything is okay. I have said it so many times and at so many fora that things are not okay in Nigeria and of course, things are not okay in the North.”
Meanwhile President Bola Tinubu Thursday met with all the States’ governors, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FTC) Chief Nyesom Wike and other stakeholders.
The meeting, which was held at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, is to address the security and economic crisis ravaging the nation. This is just as the Federal Government had started releasing tonnes of assorted grains to the market to make food available, affordable and accessible across the country.
