Former Athletics Federation of Nigeria president, Solomon Ogba said Nigeria’s pool of athletics talent is inexhaustible, following the recent exodus of the nation’s up and coming athletes to the US collegiate system.
Between January 2023 and January 2024, over 60 Nigerian talents have joined NCAA, yet home based athletes keep churning out good performances as is being witnessed at the AFN African Games trials in Asaba, Delta State.
“There is no denying the fact we still have home based athletes who return fantastic times, despite the huge number of athletes that have moved to the US.
“The performances here so far has been outstanding and it’s just the start of the season,” Ogba.
One of the revelation of the trial is Olayinka Olajide in the women 100m, she ran a personal best of 11.19seconds it was her first major meet.
Also in the men there is Sunday Israel Okon who did a person best of 10.20 seconds.
Consider Ekanem despite not running the 100m due to disqualification came back to run 20.18 in the 200m semi final.
