Nigerian athletes’ build up to the African Games begins Thursday in Abuja with 33 athletes selected from the trials in Asaba, Delta State.
The athletes include 16 women and 17 men who would be put through their paces by coaches selected by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria technical committee.
“This camp is basically for the home based selected from the trials,” AFN technical director Samuel Onikeku.
“We expect the foreign based athletes who have already met the African Games standard and would be available for the Games to join the team in Ghana.
“From the look of things and based on the performances at the trials we are hopeful of a good outing at the African Games.”
