Super Eagles top striker, Victor Osimhen scored a nodded goal but it was not enough to give Napoli all three points as Cagliari came back late to level up in Sunday’s Serie A game.
It was Osimhen’s second goal after his return from the African Cup of Nations where he scored one goal in the Super Eagles run to the final against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire. His coach Francesco Calzona said he is yet to get the best out of his the striker after the AFCON contest.
“He was only tired. Victor is a fantastic guy. He scored two goals in two matches and will slowly get back in shape,” Calzona told DAZN after the final whistle.
“Don’t forget he played at AFCON. Players are devastated when they return. He was tired also against Barcelona, but players always want to stay on the pitch.”
Osimhen scored Wednesday against Barcelona in their 1-1 champions league tie at the Maradona Stadium. It was his first game in 2024.
The Italian League defending champions look a shadow of themselves; they are ninth on the league table and four points away from a European spot.
