Alex Iwobi scored in added time to give Fulham a dramatic Premier League win
at Old Trafford and he says it was a good feeling.
Iwobi was subjected to harsh online maligning by Nigerian fans who felt that he went to sleep during the African Cup of Nations final against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire.
His Super Eagles teammate Calvin Bassey, had given Fulham the lead in the 65th minute and Harry Maguire drew level in the 89 minute, before Iwobi clinch Victory for Fulham with less than a minute left for play.
“I’m over the moon right now to come back into the team and get the win here – there is no better feeling,” said Iwobi.
“We always could create chances, we had so many in the final third, it was just about taking them and luckily I was able to take mine at the end,” he said..
“We feel we performed well and have been performing well recently, it is just about getting the results. This will give us a world of confidence and hopefully kick on. Everyone’s emotions is high and we will have to dust down, but it is a confidence boost. It’s a win for the memory bank.”
Fulham boss Marco Silva praised the impact of Iwobi and Bassey on the game after their return from AFCON duties.
“The two players [Bassey and Iwobi] that were at the Africa Cup [of Nations]. And that we miss them,” Silva told BeINSports after the game.
“They were decisive in terms of the goals. It just shows how they are important for us in the way I want to play, in our way.
“It is really nice to see both scoring goals and helping us to win.”
