Adedamola Adefolahan, a.k.a Fireboy DML, daring to be different in the Afrobeats scene, has carved a new niche he calls “Afro-life.”
Fireboy DML argued that Afro-life was different from Afrobeats, because it has “pure soul and lyricism.”
“The Afrobeats scene before I came in, it was built on vibes. But I realized that there was something lacking, and that was pure soul and lyricism in our music,” said Fireboy DML in an interview with BET.
“That was what I brought into the game. That’s why I call it Afro-Life — it’s Afrobeats that has some depth to it.”
Fireboy DML has sold himself and his music to the world and has collaborated with artists like Madonna,
Blaqbonez, Jon Bellion, Jon Batiste, Jax Jones, Madonna and Ed Sheeran in the sing “Peru,”.
speaking on his meeting with Madonna, he said:“Madonna sent me a DM on Instagram. I think she told me she was a fan and she loved the most unlikely song on my debut album.
” She is so weird and funny. I just love her. That is one of the highlights of my career; having a song with Madonna is really something to be proud of because that’s the Queen of pop.
“I went out on a date with Madonna and I would say that was probably the most memorable day of my life. It was an experience.”
