President Bola Tinubu’s nominee into the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Urum Kalu Eke failed to turn up for the Senate confirmation screening Thursday.
Mr. Kalu Eke was one of the five appointed by the President in his bid to reposition the CBN and reshape Nigeria’s economic landscape. But he was nowhere to be found when the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, chaired by Senator Adetokumbo Ashiru (Lagos-East) started their work
“The nominee did not appear before the committee for screening. Therefore, the committee can’t recommend him for confirmation”, Abiru told the Senate presided over by the Deputy President, Senator Barau Jibrin, on Thursday.
Those confirmed by the Senate on Thursday were Mr Robert Agbide; Mr Ado Yakubu Wanka; Prof Murtala Sabo Sagagi; and Mrs Muslimat Olanike Aliyu.
Offering explanations why Mr. Kalu Eke failed to show up, former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu said the banker who is from his constituency is fully engaged in consulting for some public and private bodies within and outside the country.
Kalu Eke, 60, is a former Group Managing Director, FBN Holdings, serving until December 2021. He had previously served as an executive director with First Bank.
Kalu Eke also worked with Diamond Bank Plc and Deloitte Haskins & Sells International.
