Former Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro narrowly missed winning a major trophy in his career and he has lamented that had Victor Boniface not got injured and missed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, his team could have won the title.
Peseiro relied heavily on Victor Osimhen to led the Super Eagles attack in their campaign in Cote d’Ivoire, though there was Tarem Moffi who proved to be useful the few minutes he had against South Africa in the semi-final, it was evident that Osimhen was overworked in the tournament and fatigue was written all over him in the final against the Elephants of Cote d’ Ivoire.
“I will say that Boniface would have made the difference without injury,” Peseiro said in an interview with a Portuguese media outfit.
“He was very confident and can play comfortably in our two-man attacking style.
“He can also play on both sides of the strikers, and that would have made him our invisible arc in the tournament. Our options to refine our style were limited in his absence.”
