Dame Adaora Umeoji was named new Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Zenith Bank of Nigeria, she joins the growing number of Nigerian women who are breaking the glass ceiling in the business world.
Miss Umeoji is the first woman to be appointed into that position since Zenith Bank was established in May 1990. The Anambra State born banker has been part of Zenith Bank’s rise in the industry over the years. She has spent 26 years at the bank, rising to the position of deputy managing director since October 2016.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Jos, Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and first-class honours in Law from Baze University Abuja, Master of Laws graduate from the University of Salford, United Kingdom, Master in Business Administration from the University of Calabar.
Career: Joined Zenith Bank 1998, head marketing group Maitama branch, deputy zonal head of the Abuja Zone, executive director in charge of Abuja and Middle Belt Zones of the Bank, appointed to the board on October 9, 2012.
Honours: Fellow of professional bodies including the Chartered Bankers Institute of London, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, the Institute of Credit Administration, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Nigeria, the Institute of Chartered Meditators & Conciliators, and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators of Nigeria, among others. Founder Catholic Bankers Association of Nigeria (CBAN), peace advocate of the United Nations (UN-POLAC), and a Lady of the Order of Knights of St. John International (KSJI), awarded a Papal Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester by His Holiness Pope Francis, Officer of the order of Niger 2022.
