Social commentator and online personality, Martins Vincent Otse a.k.a VeryDarkMan was Sunday evening set free from police custody after a nine-day stay behind bars.
He was clamped into detention by the police after he made comments claiming that transgender Bobrisky was sleeping with some Nigerian politicians and top policemen.
His arrest was criticized by his followers, activists and other Nigerians who felt the government was subtly cracking down on freedom of speech in Nigeria. The police claimed that they arrested VeryDarkman because there were a lot of petitions on his online comments.
His lawyer Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the development: “After five days of back and forth, we have secured VDM’s release. Thank you to everyone that made this happen, especially Sowore, Kefiano & VDM’s wonderful lawyers.”
This is the second time this year VeryDarkman would be having a brush with police. In January, he was arrested after a petition by actress, Tonto Dikeh, over comments made in the late Nigerian singer, Mohbad’s case.
