Chelsea continued their good run of form with a 6-0 drubbing of Everton at Stamford Bridge to move closer to a Europa league spot.
Star midfielder, Cole Palmer had practically wrapped up the game with a hat-trick within 16 minutes. Nicholas Jackson added the forth before half time.
Palmer was back in the tick of action again in the 64th minute, he was brought down in the box, but what followed became an embarrassing scenario for the home side. Palmer, Noni Madueke and Jackson bickered over who should take the kick.
The argument was on for a some seconds before captain Conor Gallagher arrived to hand the ball to Palmer. He dispatched the ball into the net for his fourth goal of the match.
Substitute Alfie Gilchrist netted his first goal for the club from a tight angle in the 90th minutes to complete the routing of Everton.
Chelsea stretched their Premier League unbeaten run to eight matches and are three points off seventh-placed Manchester United, who currently sit in the Premier League’s last European spot, having played one game fewer.
Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino was upset with the penalty drama.
” I told the players [in the dressing room] we can’t behave in this way. I told them this is the last time I will accept this type of behaviour.
“They’re all involved in this situation, next time they’re all out. This is not a joke.
“It’s impossible after a performance like this to see this type of behaviour.
“If we want to be a great team, fighting for big things, we need to change and think more in a collective way.
“I made clear to them, and now through the media, and I say to our fans and to everyone, Cole Palmer is the penalty taker.
“And it’s now his choice if he wants to give the ball to another player but not in this way.”
