Following the alarm raised by the Kaduna State governor Uba Sani over the debts left behind by his predecessor Nasir El-Rufai, the Kaduna State House of Assembly has set up a committee to probe the financial dealings of the former governor.
During Tuesday’s plenary, House Speaker Yusuf Liman Dahiru, announced the setting up of the committee that would unravel the facts and figures of loans and grants and other projects implementation from 2015-2023.
The committee has the mandate to invite El Rufai, the former speaker of the House, former commissioners of Finance and Budget and Planning and others connected with the spendings.
Governor Uba during a town hall meeting had claimed that the State was left with huge amounts of debts.
“Despite the huge debt burden of 587 million dollars, 85 billion naira, and N115 billion in contractual liabilities sadly inherited from the previous administration, we remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development.
“We have conducted a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly,” the governor had said.
