Participating youth athletes at the 3rd edition of the Princess Mabel Madojiemu Schools Athletics Championships, couldn’t hide their excitement when the competition began Thursday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City.
About 500 athletes are showcasing their athletics talents in the catch them young program initiated by the Princess Mabel Madojiemu Foundation.
Some of the heats were concluded in the morning, before the heavens opened up in the afternoon session.
“I’m excited running in my first Mabel Madojiemu Championships and I wish that they do it every month,” said 12 years old Joel Ughele of Leaders and Topers school Benin City.
Also speaking was Osariemen Osagie of Imaguero Girls Secondary School.
“I am happy competing in the Mabel Madojiemu Championships, this is my second time around.
“It’s very competitive this time around; we have more stronger athletes running and it going to be interesting how we will run in the finals.”
Marvelous Aruomoaghe Eghosa Anglican Grammar School who came first in his heat added that he would give his best in the boys 100m final.
All the finals would be contested on Friday.
