Mavin Records boss Michael Collins Ajereh a.k.a Don Jazzy has unfollowed Afrobeats star Ayodele Balogun a.k.a Wizkid following a social media spat between the duo.
Marvin records signee Ladipoe, started the fight when he inferred that Afrobeats stars are running out of options. “Nigerian rappers that survived ‘hip hop are dead’ watching Afrobeat artists go through their own,” Ladipoe wrote on X
Wizkid weighed in with a direct hit at Don Jazzy. “lol never chat to anyone signed to an influencer. Next.”
Don Jazzy’s response was to promptly unfollow Wizkid.
Weighing in on the beef comedian Macaroni urged Wizkid to show some respect for Don Jazzy. Mr. Macaroni said while Don Jazzy is influential across music, content, films, and brands, the context in which Wizkid called him “an influencer” was disrespectful to “everything he has done and is still doing for the Nigerian Music Industry.”
Music fans also had their say.
@lollypeezle: “I love this thing Wizkid did baje baje. Now, no one can say he’s not a clout chaser too. No one can say he’s always minding his business. No one can say he doesn’t have anyone’s time.
@GucciStarboi wrote: “Na influencer sign ladipo kethe Wizkid I know is back!”
@dunniszn_ remarked: “This is a disrespect to Don jazzy sha. He’s bigger than you, and has raised more artists than you have.”
@DanielRegha wrote, “Never chatting to anyone signed to an influencer”, but u collabed with Tiwa Savage (on Ma Lo) in 2017 while she was signed to Don Jazzy? Talk about double standards. Belittling people is a sign of insecurity. Remember no-one knows tomorrow, a newbie today might revive your career in the future. Talk smart.
