Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has urged the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, to stop playing divisive politics after he claimed that Obi was inciting the people of the South-East geopolitical zone against the Federal Government based on his criticism of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.
Obi had questioned the viability of the 700km which will cost the Federal government N15 trillion and lots of premium property and jobs loss. It is designed to connect Lagos to Cross River, passing through Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states, before culminating in Cross River.
Umahi stated in Lagos on Wednesday Obi’s criticism is capable of incisting Eastern Nigerian citizens against the government. But writing on his X page Thursday, Obi said: “My focus is on fostering constructive dialogue and inclusivity, rather than engaging in divisive politics.
” Claims of incitement are baseless distractions. I have always advocated for unity and advancement, refusing to partake in reactionary divisive politics.
“ I firmly reject these unfounded accusations aimed at tarnishing my character.
“Worse still, I have never and can never descend so low as to base my political aspirations on any sectional or ethnic interest.”
