Ola Aina was on for all 90 minutes, while Taiwo Awoniyi came in the during injury time as Nottingham Forest beat rock bottom Sheffield United 3-1 in Saturday’s Premier League game to move three points above the drop zone with two games left to play.
Former Chelsea man Callum Hudson-Odoi scored two goals and captain, Ryan Yates, added the third for Nottingham Forest after Sheffield United had gone ahead with Ben Brereton Díaz penalty goal early in the game.
With Luton only drawing on Friday night and Burnley capitulating at home to Newcastle, it means Forest are firmly in command of their own destiny.
They sit five points clear of Burnley and, crucially, three ahead of Luton, and survival suddenly feels firmly within reach for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side. As for the Blades, they are now the first team in Premier League history to concede 100 goals in a 38-game season. It was another miserable afternoon for a side whose own fate has long since been sealed.
Speaking after the game Nuno Espírito Santo, said he was pleased with his team’s performance.
“It is important [for individuals to perform well] but what gives me the confidence that we can succeed is the togetherness of the squad.
“The way they work and help each other. Football is about the team. We want a team that is organised and compact and works for each other., Looking back at the season there are so many things to improve.
“It has been very hard for us to manage all the situations. The points deduction, the players that went away to the African Nations Cup, the referees. The only way we can do things is on the pitch. That is the big advantage we have. It is in our hands to achieve the final objective.”
