Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk Saturday night beat Tyson Fury on a split decision win to makes history as the first undisputed world heavyweight in modern times.
The scorecards gave 115-112 and 114-113 decisions in favour to Usyk, with a third judge scoring it 114-113 to Fury.
Usyk was trailing behind until the ninth round when floored Tyson Fury who received a standing ten count. With the win Usyk now holds all the four heavyweight belts the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF.
Tyson Fury said after the fight that he was disappointed with the decisions claiming he won the fight. It was the first time Tyson Fury, 35, would be losing in a 16-year professional career.
“I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority,” Tyson Fury said.
“It was one of the daftest decisions in boxing. I’ll be back.”
Usyk, 37, remains unbeaten and is the first boxer in almost 25 years to stand tall as the sport’s sole heavyweight world champion.
“Thank you so much to my team. It’s a big opportunity for my family, for me, for my country. It’s a great time, it’s a great day,” Usyk said.
“Yes, of course. I am ready for a rematch.”
