Chelsea Football Club have let go of coach Mauricio Pochettino less than one year after he joined the Blues.
The Argentine-born Pochettino and Chelsea owner Todd Boehly met and agreed Tuesday to part ways on mutual consent.
The 52-year-old guided Chelsea to sixth place in the Premier League and thus European football, having led the Blues the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup semi-final. He was in charge for 51 Chelsea games last season, winning 26 of them and totting up a 50.90% win ratio.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career,” said sporting Directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley in statement.
On his part Pochettino thanked the club for giving him the opportunity to work with them: “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history. The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
Pochettino was reportedly frustrated at his lack of input in recruitment during the last two transfer windows.
