Super Eagles midfielder, Frank Onyeka said the team will leave no stone unturned to get all three points when they clash with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the World Cup qualifiers billed for June 7 in Uyo.
The Super Eagles need to win against South Africa and Benin Republic to get their qualifiers back on track after drawing against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their previous games.
“In all seriousness, we have to go to that game [against South Africa] with everything because of what it means to us and to the country,” Onyeka told sports journalist Tobi Adepoku in an interview.
“Two points from two games is not good, so we need to win our next two games. We’ll give everything and be ready for it.”
Speaking on the clash with Benin Squirrels coached by Gernot Rohr, Onyeka added: “We know Gernot Rohr and it’s not going to be easy.
“The teams in Africa are not easy to play against, so we’ll go with all seriousness in the hopes that we get the win.”
Onyeka was the Super Eagles captain at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where they came second behind Cote d’ Ivoire. He added that the team is in good hands following the appointment of Finidi George as coach of the Super Eagles. Finidi was assistant to coach Jose Peseiro at the Cote d’Ivoire AFCON.
“He’s a good coach, good guy, he helped the players during the AFCON and now he’s been appointed as the coach, so I guess everyone is happy,”
