Dakolo and Adekunle Gold

While Nigerians are still trying to come to terms with President Bola Tinubu reverting to 1960 ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’ national anthem, singer Adekunle Gold said Timi Dakolo’s song, ‘Great Nation’ should have been adopted.
There have been mixed reactions to President Tinubu signing into law the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law to reinstate the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”
Commenting on his X handle Adekunle Gold said:  “No one thought Timi Dakolo’s Great Nation makes a better anthem?”
Social media users agreed with him.
@jachukwu: “If they were truly looking for an anthem that will steer up patriotism and love for the country it would have been that song.”
@CarmillaXander: “Absolutely yes, that song could make the least patriotic Nigerian stand up and go ‘sasageyo’.”
@Tyekooon: “The lyrics are too deep for an unserious country, hence.”
@xybox: “It would make a beautiful anthem. When these old meddling politicians have left this world, I hope the future legislators will denounce this colonial special number of theirs and adopt ‘Great Nation’.”
@BFMPLUS:  “Yes but it still carries the disputable and derogatory word: Tribe!! We should stop describing ourselves as tribal people. No whiteman ever allows himself to be called tribe.”
