The Labour Party has been accused of blackmailing President Bola Tinubu over the minimum wage issue using the trade unions.
Bayo Onanuga presidential aide on information and strategy posted on his X page Monday that the NLC and TUC who are sympathetic to cause of the Labour Party are holding the nation to ransom following a nationwide strike that has paralysed the country over the stalled minimum wage negotiations.
“It appears the Labour Party is playing politics by other means,” said Mr Onanuga.
“Many of the affiliates of the two central unions, NLC and TUC, are members and supporters of the Labour Party.”
“They logically bear ill-will and grudges against the Tinubu administration. What is clear is that the issue they claim to be fighting for cannot be resolved by blackmail or sabotage; they cannot even be resolved by the federal government unilaterally.”
He added the strikes are hurting the already battered economy and also the lives of the people the trade unions claimed to be fighting for.
“Labour is harming the Nigerian people they claim to be fighting for. Today, many sick Nigerians cannot access medical care at government hospitals. Not even those with critical medical conditions.”
