Victor Osimhen’s dream of playing in the English Premier League next season is on slippery ground as Arsenal are unable to meet up with the cash demand in their bid to sign the Napoli top striker.
Chelsea and Manchester United who were linked to the player have since cooled off interests because of the €130m clause, which Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has said must be matched by any interested club.
Reports in Italy say Arsenal, the only club in England still keen on the player, are prepared to offer €90m for the player. But according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal’s offer may not be accepted by Napoli. “Victor Osimhen, we assume that he will go away. At the moment, there is only Arsenal, who are far from the clause,” he said.
Arsenal however, are reported to be looking for younger alternative strikers, but fans are eager to have a top player like Osimhen in the club for he may be the missing piece in the club’s quest to win the title, which has narrowly slipped through their fingers two seasons in a row.
Despite having a subdued season after helping Napoli to winning the 2013 Italian Serie A, Osimhen scored 17 goals and four assists in 32 appearances this season.
Paris St Germain and clubs from Saudi Arabia are the only ones with the cash to meet Napoli’s demand. The French giants are said to be keen on having Osimhen to replace Kylian Mbappe who has joined Real Madrid.
