President Bola Tinubu left unaided slipped and fell on the roofless SUV that was to take him on a joy ride around the Eagle Square during Wednesday June 12 Democracy Day parade.
As he later rode on after being picked up by his aides he was greeted with the chants of “give us our minimum wage” by workers watching from the standards.
Tinubu, before the parade had addressed the nation on the occasion of the Democracy Day celebration, marking 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.
One of the burning issues he touched on was the minimum wage. He said in his broadcast: “In this spirit, we have negotiated in good faith and with open arms with organised labour on a new national minimum wage.
“We shall soon send an executive bill to the National Assembly to enshrine what has been agreed upon as part of our law for the next five years or less.”
Meanwhile former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a tweet urged Tinubu to tread cautiously to avoid more catastrophe.
““I sincerely sympathise with President Bola Tinubu, #officialABAT, over this unfortunate incident as he was set to review the parade on Democracy Day.
“I do hope that all is well with him.”
